Band Bio
The band "Soul Lip" has officially been together since December of 2002, when all of its current members joined., Mike and Garrett Clagett (brothers) along with Ben Pierce started playing music together eight years prior to forming Soul Lip. Adam Robles joined the band in the summer of 2002 and bassist Bill Prebula was added late December.
What is a "Soul Lip"? This name came about one night when Mike and Garrett's mother was making fun of Ben's soul patch (a small patch of hair under the lower lip) by calling him "Soul Lip." Soul Lip has not followed the traditional way of forming a band, booking shows, playing covers, and then writing originals. They began creating their original sound and lyrics before ever playing a show. They have spent a lot of time recording in their home studios, Omega Studios in Rockville and East Coast Bands in Gaithersburg.
In December 2003, Soul Lip began recording their first full-length album titled, "Tainted," at East Coast Bands. "Tainted" features a vast array of melodic vocals, tight rhythms, and intricate guitar solos. In January 2004, Jean Finstad replaced Bill Prebula on bass, and immediately made an impact with his extensive experience and rock solid technique. Soul Lip parted ways with Adam Robles in the summer of 2004, and later recruited Pittsburgh native Ryan James to fill the crucial vocalist spot.
Two years later, in May 2006, Soul Lip released their first full-length album titled "Tainted." Since the release of the album, Soul Lip has continued to grow in popularity. They have played numerous venues in the Washington D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia areas with hopes to expand up and down the East Coast in the coming year. The band has been featured on local music shows such as DC 101's Local Licks, as well as 98 Rock's Noise in the Basement. The band is now starting to pick up attention on the West Coast as well. Their songs "Gunshy", "Tainted" and "Novice" have been in rotation on the California based radio station KCSS.
Soul Lip has been using their recording experience to get familiar with their new band mates and material. Now they are ready to take it to the streets for all to hear!
